About
Aleksandra Nygaard is a classically trained mezzo-soprano and electronic music artist hailing from Bergen, Norway. She earned her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance with top honors from the University of Agder, Norway. Following her studies, she broadened her horizons by studying and working in various countries, including Portugal, France, and Belgium. Aleksandra attributes her musical depth to the rich tapestry of influences she encountered during her education. These experiences also shaped her impressive linguistic skills, as she is fluent in German, French, Norwegian, and English.
In 2023, Aleksandra completed her master’s degree in Opera at the Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg, Germany, under the mentorship of Christianne Stotijn. She continues to refine her craft under the guidance of acclaimed mezzo-sopranos Susanne Schimmack and Carola Guber. Known for her warm and expressive voice, Aleksandra combines dramatic intensity with remarkable coloratura agility. Her passion for contemporary music has led her to perform challenging works such as Stimmung by Karlheinz Stockhausen, excerpts from John Cage’s Songbooks, and Apparition by George Crumb.
Recently, Aleksandra has shifted her focus to baroque and romantic opera while also engaging in composition through her ongoing project, Vesper Duo, based in Norway. As a featured soloist, she performed the role of Saint Peter in J.A. Hasse’s oratorio Sanctus Petrus et Sancta Maria Magdalena at the Summer Academy of Baroque Music during the Festival du Périgord Noir in southern France. That same year, she made her operatic debut as the Third Boy in W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg.
In September 2022, Aleksandra performed as a soloist in Merano, Italy, with the European Chamber Choir, delivering a stirring rendition of A Mass for Peace under the baton of Sir Karl Jenkins. The following year, in March 2023, she debuted as a soloist at the Lied Würzburg festival, an event organized by renowned pianist Alexander Fleischer. October 2023 marked a significant milestone in her career when she performed her first leading operatic role as Der Trommler in Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis with Junge Oper Baden-Württemberg in Freiburg.
Aleksandra is currently engaged with the Volkstheater Rostock, where she debuted as Orfeo in the second cast of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. Her talent has been recognized internationally: she was named a finalist in two prestigious vocal competitions in Italy, including the Piero Boni Competition, and she earned top placement in the virtuoso category for the Mimas Music Festival 2024. Now a member of the ensemble at Theater Lüneburg, Aleksandra is debuting in the role of Annina in Verdi’s La Traviata.
